| 31What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? 32He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? 33Who will bring a charge against God's elect? God is the one who justifies; 34who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. | How much would you guess roaming charges in Mexico are with AT&T?
Have a figure in mind?
During my recent trip, I had thought maybe it's like... $2 per call. I based my calling patterns on this assumption.
It is... I kid you not... $0.99 PER MINUTE. Oops. At least it falls on my turn to pay the family cell phone bill.
| John Piper brings it.
I've been listening to audio sermons of his recently, for Galatians 5 and Acts 1, and wow. It's not just that he dissects the Scripture effectively and humbly; others like Stott do similarly. Piper preaches with such heartfelt passion that even via MP3, even 15 and 25 years after the sermons were originally recorded, I can't help but get fired up. The brilliant exposition and deep conviction--a pairing that could only be the work of God--are really inspiring to me.
Aside from our Agape EM pastoral team (who really are outstanding shepherds and a great encouragement to me), Piper is my favorite preacher. I like that so many of his sermons are available in audio and text formats online. http://www.desiringgod.org/ResourceLibrary/Sermons/ByScripture/
It's no substitute for our own study of and meditation on the Word, but like reading commentaries, it can be a very good supplement to that. It would be of great profit to my peers if God grew my feeble teaching to be more like Piper's. Thankfully, at least the passion conveyed in his voice is at times somewhat contagious.
Yes it's about the Word and not the messenger. Yes it's about God and not the servant. But John Piper brings it.

[Update: I give up. It's like 2 hours of reading per day, and honestly I can find better ways to spend 2 hours each day. Maybe someday when I'm less busy. If anybody is actually doing this... rock on, and I hope you're not discouraged by my early exit.]
| And everything
that’s new Has bravely surfaced Teaching us to breathe... What was frozen through
Is newly purposed
Turning all things green...
So it is with You
And how You make me new
With every season’s change...
And so it will be
As You are re-creating me
Summer, autumn, winter, spring...
